At the UK annual Christmas Convention on Saturday 28th November 2009, John Wyllie from Salsburgh
in Scotland was named Cambridge Weight Plan’s ‘Slimmer of the Year’ 09/10.
John’s story begins in 1995 when he was 32 years old and working as a policeman for Strathclyde
constabulary. Fitness was an important aspect in John’s life and he regularly cycled 50 miles a day
to work and even became a fitness coach at his constabulary. Before serving as an Officer, John
played professional Rugby for Scotland’s B Team and even enjoyed a bit of modelling for a well-known
high street store.
In 1996 John suffered a horrific accident whilst cycling to work which left him disabled and unable
to bend his knee. Unable to move around, John’s weight quickly shot up to 27 stone and he became a
recluse. He was advised to speak to a Canadian surgeon who eventually flew to the UK to perform
pioneering surgery on John’s knee, which was a success and for the first time in three years John
could walk again. Slowly regaining his mobility and confidence, John had to then face his next
obstacle - his weight. With the encouragement of his wife, he contacted his local Cambridge Consultant
Marilyn and successfully reduced his size, dropping from a 6XL to a medium and losing 20’’ from his
chest.
John said: ‘I struggled with my weight for six years before I successfully lost it with Cambridge in
late 2008. My success is really down to two people – my wife Diane for her belief in me and Marilyn
for her commitment to Cambridge and the support she has given to me. Winning ‘Slimmer of the Year’
was quite overwhelming and I’m very grateful to all the people who voted for me. The whole experience
has been life changing.
The ‘Slimmer of the Year’ winner was voted for by those at the Convention and John was a unanimous
winner. He was presented with his award by the Cambridge Weight Plan distributors from Cyprus,
Helen and Peter Zenios. John and Marilyn will fly out to Cyprus & Egypt in July 2010 as part of his prize.
As guests of Helen and Peter, they will visit a number of Cambridge Consultants and customers on the
island.
John retired from the Police force before he had surgery. He has now become a Cambridge Consultant
himself and has continued to increase his fitness and is still maintaining his weight.
